Luang Prabang

Luang Prabang is an indispensable destination when you come in Laos because of his tranquility. The old capital is located in the north of Laos, about 425 km from today’s capital, Vientiane.

Luang Prabang is found at the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Khan river. This city is surrounded by the grandiose mountains and has been recognized by UNESCO as part of the world's cultural heritage. Tourist’s first impressions of Luang Prabang are the beauty of the landscapes, the well preserved architecture of its ancient buildings and the calm daily lives of its residents.

As most Laotians are Buddhists, there are many ancient pagodas and temples in and around the old capital and all are very well preserved. Monks walk the streets each morning to collect alms, and if you want you can join the throngs of locals that participate.

Other interesting sites of interest are the Royal Palace, Mount Phousi, Wat Xieng Thong and the Night Market.

You might see the monks walking in line to beg through the streets every morning. It's sure that you would like to give them some food with the natives once in your life.

It is very easy to rent a motorbike or cycle to move around the old city, for a good cup of coffee or to see the beautiful tropical flowers and other flora.

The Night Market is open from 5pm to 10pm daily, and you can find any amount of clothing, shoes, ceramics, paintings tea, coffee and many other handy-crafts, all at reasonable prices. There are no pressure sales staff here - so it is a wonderful experience.

All this, and more, helps create the special beauty of Luang Prabang, and you can view lovely sunsets from the top of Mt Phousi.
