Vientiane
When planning your travel to Laos make sure you include Vientiane as one of the interesting places you should not miss. It is the capital city of this wonderful country, and one of the largest cities in the “Land of a Million Elephants”.
The capital city is located on the banks of the Mekong River opposite Thailand, a country which it also shares land borders. Compared to other Asian capital cities it is quiet and peaceful place. Laos was part of French Indochina, and as such you will find a plethora of French Colonial buildings and homes amongst the architecture of Vientiane. The country is an independent country now but echoes of its past remain. The city has retained its beauty and attracts many visitors who are attracted by the beauty and quaintness of the place.
In Vientiane there are many different ways to get around this capital city, firstly the sites and traditional monuments can be accessed by van or car, if you take an organised tour, or secondly tuk-tuks or bicycles can be used to explore the many hidden alleyways and the natural beauty of the Mekong River. The most frequently asked question of Travel agents is “Where do we go in Vientiane?” We are here to help you in that regard. Amongst the truly exotic attractions that are worth a stop during your site-seeing journey of Vientiane are:
- Pha That Luang
- Wat Sisaket
- Wat Simuang
- Buddha Park
- Wat Pra Keo
- Talat Sao morning Market, open from 9am to 5pm daily.
The market is full of locals and tourists, looking for, and finding, a variety of shoes clothing, electronic products and souvenirs at more than reasonable prices.
After a long day of site-seeing there is nothing better than grabbing a drink and admiring the beautiful sunset from a terrace restaurant on the edge of the Mekong River. And just like that, away from mass tourism, Vientiane will fascinate you, like it has fascinated many travellers before you, with its own authenticity and make you feel at home even when travelling.
