Borders with Laos 7 days

After local breakfast, start your second day tour in Laos to Konglor cave.

You will be provided with lifejackets and headlamps before a short walk around the main entrance of the cave.
Once inside, you will board a long boat that will sail you along this spectacular cave on an underground part of the HinBoun River - a 7.5km journey before you see the daylight again! The river is active throughout the year and reveals a large formation of stalactites and stalagmites which you can explore partly on foot inside the cave. The place of the cave extends almost 90m and reaches a height of 100m.

Then transfer to Thakhek. Stop on the way to visit That Sikhottabong (6km south of Thakhet), one of the main stupas of Laos, whose origins go back to the 6th century and which was restored in 1970. Arrival and check in you hotel.

After breakfast in hotel, transfer to Savanakhet. Upon your arrival in Savannakhet, visit the Vat Rattanalangsi temples and especially the very interesting Vat Sainyaphum, made up of several colorful temples and stupas and a beautiful garden where the bonzes devote themselves to the sculpture and painting of Boudha. Stop at the site of That Ing Heng, 2nd most sacred place of southern Laos, after the Vat Phou. This stupa, at the base cubic, is very ancient and supposed to contain a relic of Buddha. It was restored in the 16th, then in the 20th century by the French. A golden umbrella is attached to its top.

Today, our local guide escort you to Boloven Plateau - an ideal place to enjoy the freshness of the tropical mountains.

Visit the village Katouat, which rarely sees tourists, where many families of the village are coffee farmers. You join local famer’s work on the plantations by learning how to pick the coffee cherries by hand, and only the ripe cherries are picked. With a full basket of cherries we return to the village’s coffee factory where the coffee is pulped, fermented and washed. We will enjoy lunch with the villagers before we will take the beans to be dried by the sun, which takes up to 25 days depending on the weather. We will see how the dried beans are hulled to become the green beans, which are then sold to France, Germany and Japan. As the last step in the production chain, we roast and grind the green beans – to finally enjoy one of the best coffees in the world.

In the afternoon, immersing yourself in the paradise of magnificent waterfall. Visit of Tad Fane, the highest waterfall in the country including two powerful waterfalls that are about 120 meters high. End of sightseeing, transfer directly to La Folie Lodge. Check in and time to enjoy swimpool.

At the begining of afternoon, meet our guide and driver then heading to explore the fascinating Pre-Angkorian ruins of Wat Phou, one of the oldest archaeological sites in Laos. This Khmer temple is at the base of a curiously shaped 1,416 meters mountain and reserves some peculiarities to be discovered, namely: engraved cliff, elephant figure carved out of the natural rock and gatekeepers Dvarapala, etc. Enjoy a magnificent view over the Mekong River from the third platform of the ruins.

Then heading to Nakasang village where you begin your  cruise (30mns) on a traditional long-tail boat to Don Khone in the 4000 islands area (Si Phan Don). Arrival and check in hotel.

Today, spend your time to discovery authentic islands Done Khone and Done Det

Don Khone is an ideal destination to take a walk or bike ride. On this island there is an abandoned railway and Colonial French Buildings. Once you reach Don Khone, do not hesitate to explore the Li Phi waterfall (also called Somphamit Waterfall), which lies between the 2 islands of Don Xang and Don Khone and thus forms a natural border between Laos and Cambodia. The main road to go there is well preserved and decorated with bamboo groves. Before ending your excursion, cross an old French bridge connecting Don Det, a neighboring island for a pleasant stroll.

In middle of afternoon, transfer by tuk-tuk to Ban Hang Khone village where you embark on small boat to observe Mekong dolphine (if you have chance, you see dolphin jumpin over the water). Drive back to your hotel in Ban Khone. End of your day, relax with sunset drinks.

After breakfast, we board a boat to Ban Nakasang and take a short drive to the Lao – Cambodia border.

En route we visit the breathtaking Khone Phapheng waterfall, the South East Asia’s biggest waterfall, known as the Niagara of the East.

The travel in Laos ends after transfer to the Lao-Cambodia border at Dong Kalor border gate.
