Muang La

Muang La is a charming little village located at the confluence of the La and the Nam Phak Rivers, about 53 km north of Oudomxay, surrounded by tranquil farmland, undulating mountains, palm trees and Khmu villages.

The total area of this village is about 1750 km² with a population of almost 18000. There are in total 44 different villages that shelter ethnic groups, including 4 main groups: Khamu, Leu, Lao, Akha.

What attracts the most tourists when arriving at Muang La is the natural hot springs. Indeed, nothing more fantastic than soaking in the warm, refreshing water by enjoying the scenery of the river. Normally, travelers come to Muang La after a long circuit in Laos to relax and find calm in the soul as Muang La is a place where tourism has not arrived yet by mass.

The roads in Muang La are not in large quantities, nor kept in good condition as the trucks traveling between China and this village break them and the potholes make the journey a little longer. Despite all this, Muang La is always worth a visit for that feeling of complete rest. Besides the thermal spring water, this place is also known for the Wat Prachao Singkham temple which keeps one of the most revered Buddha statues of Laos, the traditional salt production craft, and the  Thai Lue architecture.

It is possible to reach Muang La by road from Luang Prabang or Oudomxay. There are also buses to Oudomxay from this village and vice versa. As the number of local restaurants and rooms is not many, you will have few options. We therefore advise you to bring food and book the room months in advance.
